Description: As part of their month-long series of "Nightmare City" Halloween screenings (which also includes "A Video Nasties Celebration" and "Universal Horror B-Sides), the Cinefamily screens this 1967 classic from Hammer Films, the company that reinvented cinematic horror in the 1950s and '60s. Christopher Lee stars as the Duc De Richleau, battling Charles Gray's ominous Satanist. The script is by the great Richard Matheson, from Dennis Wheatley's novel. The great Terence Fisher (HORROR OF DRACULA) directed. Although the special effects are a bit dated, and frankly the film is not the most terrifying ever made, The Devil Rides Out is remarkable for its convincing depiction of the battle between Good and Evil, put in stark metaphysical terms without ever losing sight of the human story.
