Description: The Alex Film Society presents a screening of the 1943 black-and-white classic, starring Bela Lugosi and Lon Chaney Jr as the title characters. The feature film will be preceded by the 1995 animated short subject “Runaway Brain.” The 8pm screening will be followed by a special live event: a “presidential” debate between Frankenstein and the Wolf Man, with Bela Lugosi Jr and Ron Chaney (the sons of the late movie stars) in person to introduce their “candidates.”
Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man is not a masterpiece on part with the original Frankenstein or The Wolf Man, but it is easily one of the most entertaining of the Universal Studios horror films from the 1940s, with splendid sets, lots of atmosphere, and an appropriately over-the-top climax, featuring the two monsters going hand-to-claw, amidst much smashed laboratory equipment. There is also a genuinely spooky opening, with the lycanthropic Lawrence Talbot (Chaney) resurrected from the tomb by the light of the full moon. This is the ultimate movie-movie for monster kids of all ages.
Tickets are $13.50 for general admission; $9.50 for seniors, students, and children; $8 for Alex Film Society members (join at the box office with cash or check and save immediately on admission). Note: Alex Facility Fee added to ticket price at box office.
