Starting the first week in September, the American Cinematheque will present “Attack of the Giant Screen,” a festival of B-movies at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica and the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. Things kick off on November 5 at the Aero, with Tim Burton’s bopic ED WOOD. Actor Marin Landau, who won an Oscar for his performance as Bela Lugosi, will discuss the film afterward, along with screenwriters Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. Subsequent double bills at the Aero include THEM (1954) & THE GIANT CLAW (1957), INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS (1956) & EARTH VS THE FLYING SAUCERS (1956), TREMORS (1990) & CRITTERS (1986), and 20 MILLION MILES TO EARTH (1957) & THE MONSTER THAT CHALLENGED THE WORLD (1957). The festival wraps up at the Egyptian Theatre on November 9 with THE LOST SKELETON OF CADAVRA (2004), followed by the Los Angeles premier of its sequel, THE LOST SKELETON RETURNS AGAIN (2008). Both flms will be followed by discussions with the cast and crew.
