Bad News: Boney Island shutters its doors
The Boney Island Yard Haunt in Sherman Oaks has closed its doors to tourists – permanently. Though its official website still lists dates for Halloween 2017, the Boney Island Facebook page has announced that the amateur attraction was forced to discontinue because of prohibitive costs:
In light of events our world has been experiencing, keeping the public safe from harm in an outdoor setting has become stricter and cost prohibitive with permit fees, road closures, and police protection. With the city’s new requirements, costs could reach up to $100,000. For a neighborhood event like Boney Island, it is too far out of our reach and therefore, we have no other option than to close our gates for good.
We are blessed to say we have had an amazing 19 year run of a whimsical tradition for so many individuals and families, creating magical memories that will last a lifetime.
As Maestro Maxilla would say, “Go have the greatest Halloween ever!”

This is sad news for all lovers of Halloween in Los Angeles.
