Barabella gets Bond writers

Dino DeLaurentiis’ threatened remake of BARBARELLA seems to be getitng closer to reality. Previously, director Peter Webber was mentioned as being attached to the project; now writers Neil Purvis and Robert Wade are involved.

Considering that Webber directed HANNIBAL RISING and the Purvis and Wade’s scripts for the Bond films had been going downhill until Paul Haggis came in to rewrite CASINO ROYALE, one has to wonder whether Dino isn’t deliberately trying to outdo the original for sheer over-rated camp awfulness.

For years, I remember reading what a great, funny, colorful, sexy, effects-laden film was the 1968 version starring Jane Fonda (who later disowned the role). And then I actually saw it… Ouch!
