This Week’s Pics: Bigger Than Life – Road Warrior, Lifeforce & 2001 in 70mm

This week, the American Cinematheque launches its month-long Bigger Than Life: 70MM Returns festival, which consists of classic films projected in the glorious widescreen format. After beginning with a couple of non-genre titles, the festival turns to science fiction, fantasy, and horror with screenings of THE ROAD WARRIOR, LIFEFORCE, and 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY. The first two screen as a double bill on Saturday; the latter screens solo on Sunday. All of these screenings take place at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.

The festival runs from May 7 through May 13 at the Egyptian and from May 21 through May 29 at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica.  Later screenings will feature personal appearances from Pat Boone with JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH and James Cameron with a double bill of ALIENS and THE ABYSS.

Title: The Road Warrior & Lifeforce
Description: George Miller’s superior sequel, starring Mel Gibson as Mad Max, is double-billed with Tobe Hooper’s over-the-top sci-fi opus about space vampires.
