Description: The Blumhouse of Horrors – which made its debut last Halloween – returns to the downtown Variety Arts Theatre with an all-new show, based on the live-action film from earlier this year (which was, not coincidentally, made by Blumhouse Productions, the creators of INSIDIOUS and PARANORMAL ACTIVITY). The premise of the film is that, one night a year, all criminal activity is legal, leading to widespread mayhem in the streets. On screen, THE PURGE stuck to a narrow focus, on a single household; hopefully, the Halloween walk-through version will open up the story, suggesting an entire city under siege.
As with last year’s Blumhouse of Horrors, The Purge: Fear the Night will offer a lengthy tour (approximately 40 minutes) filled with dramatic vignettes, creating a bit more of an interactive theatrical experience, somewhat akin to Delusion: Presented by Haunted Play.
On a personal note, we rather liked the film version of THE PURGE, so we are not unhappy to see it serve as the basis for a Los Angeles Halloween attraction. However, we do hope this does not set a trend, in which each new Blumhouse of Horrors presentation simply shills the company’s latest film.
