Carpenter’s Halloween returns to HHN

Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights is taking another stab at the Halloween franchise, with a maze devoted to John Carpenter’s 1978 original. Halloween-themed mazes have been a semi-regular attraction at the theme park since 2009, when “Halloween: The Life and Crimes of Michael Myers” offered a greatest-hits selection of scenes from the franchise up to that point, even including the off-brand Halloween III: Season of the Witch. (Check out Hollywood Gothique’s video of the haunt here.)

Six years later, “Halloween: Michael Myers Comes Home” recreated much of the previous maze (including the smashed pumpkin heads and TV jingle from Season of the Witch) even though advanced publicity suggested it would be exclusively focused on the 1978 film. More recently, HHN presented mazes based on Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers in 2018 and 2021.

Once again, Universal Studios is citing John Carpenter’s original film as the inspiration for an all-new maze. Considering what happened in 2015, we will take a wait-and-see attitude, especially since the intervening years have given us two-thirds of a new Halloween trilogy that could find its way into the maze.

Halloween Horror Nights takes place at Universal Studios Hollywood in September and October. Get more info at the haunt’s website.
