Cinefantastique Magazine 50th Anniversary Reunion coming in December

Mark your calendars! On Sunday, December 10, from 2pm to 4pm, Creature Features in Burbank will host a 50th anniversary reunion of key personnel from Cinefantastique magazine – including yours truly. Long before the Internet gave a voice to fans, Cinefantastique was “The Review of Horror, Fantasy & Science Fiction Films” – a magazine devoted to looking at the genre seriously and critically, heaping praise on classic and cult titles but also savaging popular blockbusters. Under the editorship of Frederick S. Clarke, the magazine often courted controversy, publishing revealing articles (what we would not call spoilers) and picking David-and-Goliath battles with Hollywood giants, such as Lucas and Spielberg.

The reunion will feature a question-and-answer panel, hosted by me, with such guests as Don Shay (Cinefex), Steve Jay Rubin (The Twilight Zone Encyclopedia), and more to be announced. Price of admission is $12, which includes a reception afterward. Creature Features is located at 2904 W Magnolia Blvd, Burbank, 91505. The Facebook page for the event is here.
