CreepyFlix – Horror Version of Netflix

CreepyFlix seems to be a new company that wants to become the horror equivalent of Netflix.

They promise a wide range of genre titles to rent on DVD (with unlimited rental plans starting at $9.95 a month), and they claim they will have a Video on Demand feature ready to go in the near future.

Titles are organized by categories and subcategories. For example, under the “Horror” category, you can find subcategories for Asian, Classic, Boxed Sets, etc. You don’t have to worry about missing a title if you pick the wrong category; titles are duplicated if they suit multiple categories. And of course there’s a search feature if you know exactly what you’re looking for.

My brief excursion through the store showed signs of promise, turning up some titles (like ONE MISSED CALL) that are hard to find at my local specialty video story. Unfortunately, some subcategories are thinly populated (there were no horror box sets available, for example).

Also, information about the DVDs is minimal, making it difficult for you to choose between the multiple versions (for instance) of ARMY OF DARKNESS, unless you already know which one has the bonus features you want. But if you’re the kind of person checking out the titles on a website called CreepyFlix, you probably already have such details memorized.

UPDATE April 30, 2009: Creepyflix has added streaming video and a live TV channel.
