This outdoor series of dramatic vignettes has not been seen in Los Angeles since 2009 – maybe someone finally realized that Wicked Lit had cribbed their idea of setting plays in actual locations and having the audience follow the action as it unfolded? UPDATE: Drama After Dark informs Hollywood Gothique that they did perform in 2010 and 2011. How we missed their listing on the Huntington Gardens calendar remains a mystery, since we did in fact list other Halloween events at Huntington Gardens in those years.
For 2012, Drama After Dark: A Night of the Macabre with Poe and Gorey returns with its series of plays based on the work of Edgar Allan Poe and Edward Gorey, performed by the Guild of St. George. Titles include “The Pit and the Pendulum,” The Tell-Tale Heart,” and many more.
During the course of the evening, audience members see up to six out of the ten or more performances, which play simultaneously at various sites throughout the upper levels of the grounds. Most of the performances are outdoors (chairs provided), requiring the audience to walk to various sites. To enhance the mood of the evening, many of the lights on the grounds are dimmed or turned off completely.
The Huntington bookstore will be open until 6:30pm with Poe, Gorey, and other items. Complimentary light refreshments will be served.
No one under 18.
Date: October 20 at 6:30pm
