Drama After Dark 2015 delivers

Had a great time at Drama After Dark: A Night of the Macabre with Poe and Gorey last night. After they were forced to find a different location for Halloween 2014, it was great to see the Guild of St. George back at the Huntington Gardens, which provides the perfect venue for their dramatic readings and ghoulish performances. Of the plays on the schedule, we saw seven, the maximum that any viewer can fit into the event’s three-and-a-half-hour running time: “Morella,” “Berenice,” “The Cask of Amontillado,” “The Pit and the Pendulum” (starring Cylan Brown, seen at top), and three sets of “Gorey Stories.” After attending for three years, we have seen performances of all fourteen* of the Drama After Dark play-lets (with a couple repeat viewings in there). It feels like quite an accomplishment – and well worth the effort.

Unfortunately, this is a one-night-only Halloween event, so you will have to wait until next year for your opportunity. Mark your calendars now.

Footnote:

  • The numbering of the plays can be confusing because some run back-to-back; some alternate in the same performance space; and some may be omitted in certain years if space is not available.
