In 1933 Fay Wray was approached by producer Merian C. Cooper, who told her that he had a part for her in a picture in which she would be working with a tall, dark leading man. The "tall, dark leading man" would be a giant gorilla and the picture would be King Kong. The film grossed $90,000 in its opening weekend, which was the biggest opening ever at the time.
