Knott’s Scary Farm 2015 announces new maze, Dead of Winter

Knott’s Berry Farm has begun announcing the attractions for its 2015 Halloween Haunt, which will feature two live shows, three scare zones, and 11 mazes, five of them with special “Skeleton Key Rooms” (providing small groups with more personal thrills). Most of these will be returning attractions seen in 2014; the only newcomers are Elvira’s Asylum, starring the Mistress of the Dark in another comedic dance show, and  The Dead of Winter, featuring an icy encounter with the Snow Queen and her Viking zombies.

That may sound a bit thin as far as new material goes, but Knotts Scary Farm 2014 was very strong, so we won’t mind seeing most of its attractions return. Not all the holdovers have been announced; of those that have, some sound as if they have been upgraded, or at least rebranded:

  • Special Ops: Infected is being retitled “Special Ops: Infected – Patient Zero” this year. Knott’s Berry Farm promises more zombies, more missions, and high-tech laser guns in this action-packed, interactive adventure, which arms guests to the teeth so that they can fend off the living dead.
  • Gunslinger’s Grave – back for its third year – will be designated “Gunslinger’s Grave: A Blood Moon Rises.” Presumably, the Moon is Full, because this year the old western ghost town will be haunted by werewolves.
  • Also returning are Pinocchio Unstrung (a demented version of the children’s story) and The Tooth Fairy (a gruesomely effective walk through dental horror, which, like Special Ops: Infected, made its debut in 2014).

The three returning scare zones are Fiesta de Los Muertos, Carnevil, and the perennial Ghost Town Streets.

Knott’s Berry Farm’s 43rd season of Halloween haunting will last 24 nights from September 24 through October 31. Hours are 7pm to 1am on weeknights and Sundays, 7pm to 2am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Tickets, which are on sale now, run from $39.99 to $69.99, depending on whether they are purchased online, in advance, or at the door.
