Flashback: Matthew Bourne’s Edward Scissorhands

With  Scissorhands: A Musical Inspired by the Film currently running at Rockwell Table & Stage (reviewed here), it seems like a good time to remind readers of the previous musical-stage adaptation of Edward Scissorhands: Matthew Bourne’s ballet, which ran in Los Angeles at the Ahmanson Theatre in 2006. You can read our review of the production here. We also have a question-and-answer transcript with Bourne and screenwriter Caroline Thompson, who collaborated on transferring Tim Burton’s fantasy film to the stage.

Bourne’s ballet has been revived twice, first in 2008, then in 2014, but neither revival reached Los Angeles. Bourne’s Cinderella arrives at the Ahmanson in February.
