Frankenstein comes alive in Long Beach Playhouse

Now at the Long Beach Playhouse, Frankenstein 1930 is a tribute to the classic black-and-white horror movies produced by Universal Studios in the 1930s. Written by By Fred Carmichael, the play hews closer to the 1931 film starring Boris Karloff than the 1818 novel by Mary Shelley. Expect Gothic trappings inspired by the Gold Age of Horror movies, including a forbidding stone-walled laboratory, a mad scientist driving by obsession, an angry mob of villagers, a helpless heroine, and a raging lightening storm that brings life to a monster who manages to win our sympathy.

Frankenstein 1930 runs in the Long Beach Playhouse’s Mainstage Theater on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through October 21, starting at 8pm nightly. Tickets range from $20 to $30. The address is 5021 E. Anaheim Street in Long Beach. Get more information here.
