George Miller retro coming to Cinematheque

Starting August 25, the American Cinemathque will present a four-day tribute to Australian filmmaker George Miller, who shot to international fame in 1979 with the release of Mad Max, starring Mel Gibson. Titles to be screened include the animate feature Happy Feet, the black-and-chrome version of Mad Max: Fury Road, and a double bill of Babe and Babe: Pig in the City. There will also be a free, members-only double bill of The Witches of Eastwick and Miller’s upcoming fantasy film, Three Thousand Years of Longing (pictured at top), starring Idris Elba as a Djinn who grants three wishes to a scholar (Tilda Swinton).

Screenings take place at the Los Feliz Theatre on Vermont and the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica. Films will be preceded by prerecorded introductions from Miller. Get more information on the Cineamtheque website.
