Immersive Experiences, Haunted Pub Crawls, Spooky Street Scenes, Frightful Festivals & Expos: The Best Halloween Festivities in Los Angeles
Tired of the same old Halloween Events? Then check out these exciting Halloween Festivities!
2020 Update: Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, many if not most of the familiar Halloween Festivals and Fun on this page will be cancelled. Fortunately, some new ones are opening to fill the void, which you will find under the header "Halloween Festivities Updates."
The Greater Los Angeles Area offers many ways to enjoy Halloween besides walking through scary mazes. A wide range of Halloween Festivities - immersive experiences, harvest festivals, pub crawls, costume parties - appeals to everyone from youngsters to teens to parents. Some of these target children; others are adult-oriented; a few fall somewhere in between, providing a safe way for parents to enjoy the season with their children. This page lists events that that are suitable for adults and families; we have a separate page for Kid-Friendly Halloween Fun, including neighborhoods noted for attracting trick-or-treaters with their marvelous multitudes of decorated houses.
Community-oriented, family-friendly events include block parties and harvest festivals. Some business areas block off traffic, allowing costumed revelers to take over the streets. Some of these Halloween events are fund-raisers, organized by churches or community centers to benefit local causes. Others are organized by local businesses to attract customers and/or provide safe options for families.
The more mature Halloween Festivities include haunted pub crawls that offer a night of drunken debauchery. Immersive events provide devilish entertainment in the guise of dinner parties, with sinister costumed characters creating an adults-only theatrical experience. (If these events have an actual plot with a resolution, we file them under Halloween Theatre; immersive events listed on this page have characters but not necessarily a narrative.)
Not all Los Angeles Halloween Festivities are officially organized events; some are informal, such as the Hollywood Halloween Street Fair, which consists of people showing up in costume on Halloween Night for a sort of spontaneous sidewalk parade. The city does not endorse the event, and the police no longer block automobile traffic on Hollywood Boulevard; crowds show up anyway.
