The Alone Experience History

The Alone Experience made its debut for Halloween 2013 as “Alone: An Existential Haunting,” offering a 30-minute walk-through experience, which each visitor had to accomplish on his own, with only a flashlight. The 18-and-over experience – described as one part interactive theatre and one part psychological haunting – sounded similar to the Blackout Haunted House: visitors were required to fill out a waiver and follow instructions given inside the haunt; refusal to comply would result in removal, without a refund. Guests were advised to wear comfortable shoes and clothes they were not afraid to get dirty.

After a few years of presenting itself as a Halloween haunt, Alone repositioned itself as “an ongoing, site-specific, fully-immersive and existential experience that explores the range of human emotions,” which offered its immersive theatrical experiences at various times throughout the year. It also became a bit more insular, targeting its audience with an insider email list. Locations were not announced; ticket purchasers received information a few days prior to their attendance date.
