Mabel’s 6 Feet Under Haunted Motel

A Distinctive Stand-Alone Haunt

Our Assessment

No rooms at the Bates Motel? Then check into Mabel’s 6 Feet Under. This imaginatively executed Halloween haunt utilizes moody lighting and atmospheric production design to submerge guests in its sinister setting – a combination of haunted house walk-through and literal maze. Live actors, animatronics, a handful of impressive mechanical effects, and some clever low-tech tricks (drop panels, hidden doors) provide so many endearingly creepy apparitions that no self-respecting haunt-seeker would want to check out!

Mabel’s 6 Feet Under Haunted Motel: General Information

Mabel’s 6 Feet Under was a non-profit effort intended to “provide job training in the field of construction and theatrical arts for under-served adults,” including “court ordered volunteers” and “adults with criminal records.”

Originally called Motel 6 Feet Under, this Halloween haunt earned solid reviews for its presentations in 2015, 2016, and 2017. In 2018, the haunt went on hiatus (“dark but not dead,” read the announcement), with a promise that “big things” were in the works, which would be revealed when details were confirmed. Instead, Mable’s officially announced its permanent closure on February 4, 2019.
