The Santa Monica Zombie Crawl offered an upbeat event, mixing Halloween ambiance with a free-wheeling party vibe – more fun-filled festival than March of the Living Dead, drawing a young crowd eager to lurch and moan from one bar to the next in search of drink specials at a variety of appealing locations. By the end of the evening, the distinction between the living and the non-living was negligible at best, but participants had so much fun they did not care whether they were dead drunk or just dead.

Santa Monica Zombie Crawl Information

The Santa Monica Zombie Crawl took participating zombies for a tour of pubs and bars on and around the Santa Monica Pier and the Third Street Promenade. The event started at Rusty’s Surf Shack ib the pier, where participants received wristbands entitling them to drink special at participating bars, and makeup experts were on site to transform the living into the Walking Dead. The zombie-fied pub crawlers then moved on to such locations as Big Dean’s Oceanfront Cafe, Del Frisco’s Grille, Ye Olde King’s Head, Cabo Cantina, Barney’s Beanery, and 1212 Santa Monica.

After going dark in 2019, the event remained closed during the 2020 pandemic and again the following year because of lingering concerns about safety during the surge of cases caused by the Delta variant of Covid-19. No plans have been announced to revive it.
