Fright Fair Scream Park 2010: Mini-Review

Fright Fair Factory of NightmaresLast night, Hollywood Gothique made its annual trip out to Pierce College to enjoy the shrieks of fear for sale at FrightFair ScreamPark, the adult night-time event appended onto the Halloween Harvest Festival. Although we don’t have time today to give this long-running favorite the detailed review it deserves, we just had to sit down for a few minutes and let you know that all of its usual virtues are intact in 2010 – and amplified to the nth degree. We cannot quite put our finger on what is different – a new maze, a slight re-arrangement of the old attractions, more actors – but whatever the reason, this year’s Fright Fair is even scarier and more fun than before.

Briefly, the three mazes are the Factory of Nightmares (a haunted house), the Creatures of the Corn (a walk through a cornfield haunted by monsters of various sorts), and the new Insane Reaction – which is a literal maze, made of fences set inside a structure illuminated by strobe lights and populated by ghouls taunting you over your inability to find a way out.

As always, the chief virtue here is the aggressiveness of the cast, who are not content with a single “boo” scare but insist on relentlessly pursuing you, long after monsters at other Halloween haunts would give up.

We will be back later to give a more detailed rundown, but for the moment take our word for it: You definitely want to put Fright Fair on your must-see list for this Halloween.
