Jack the Ripper VR experience opening in Santa Clarita

Horror fans who cannot wait till September for their Halloween thrills are in luck: Wax House: The Legend of Jack the Ripper is opening on August 31 at Mountasia Family Fun Center in Santa Clarita. This half-hour virtual-reality experience invites visitors in groups of four to explore 3,000 square feet of virtual space in a quest to discover the identify of history’s most infamous serial killer.

Presented by “HollowZone Immersive” (a brand-name of Hollow Studios), Wax House: The Legend of Jack the Ripper is a “room-scale” experience, meaning that participants physically walk through an actual clear space, simulating the sense of moving through the virtual world. Unlike previous virtual-reality attractions we have seen in Los Angeles (Into the Black, FearVR at Knotts Scary Farm, Ghost Manor at Castle Dark), The Legend of Jack the Ripper is a game, which requires visitors to find the Ripper’s victims and solve puzzles. (In fact, a single-player version was released in February as a download for use with the VIVE virtual reality system on your home computer.)

Tickets are $34.99 plus service fees. They can be purchased in person, but if you want to book a particular time it is best to purchase in advance, online. It is possible to book all four tickets for a private tour with your and your friends only; otherwise, booking is shared with other guests. Participants must be 13 and over.

Wax House: The Legend of Jack the Ripper runs Wednesday through Sunday from August 31 through October 31. Hours are 4:00pm – 8:30pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays; 4:00pm – 10:00pm on Fridays; 11am – 9:45pm on Saturdays; and 11am – 8:15pm on Sundays.

Mountasia Family Fun Centeris located at 21516 Golden Triangle Road, Santa Clarita, 91350.
