Jaws documentary at L.A. United Film Fest

The Shark is Still Working: The Impact and Legacy of JawsThe Los Angeles United Film Festival runs from Apirl 30 through May 7, with screenings at the Visa Theatre and the Los Feliz 3 Cinemas. Though not geared toward science fiction, fantasy, and horror films, there are a few screenings that will be of interest to genre fans: CHRISTMAS ON MARS, JAWS, and THE SHARK IS STILL WORKING: THE IMPACT AND LEGACY OF JAWS.

The festival launches in the Vista Theatre on Thursday, April 30. There will be a retrospective screening of JAWS at 9:30pm that evening, introduced by special guests, and with a trailer for THE SHARK IS STILL WORKING, a documentary on the making of JAWS.

CHRISTMAS ON MARS screens in the Los Feliz Cinema 3 on May 2 at 9:45pm.

THE SHARK IS STILL WORKING will have its premiere in the Los Feliz 3 Cinemas on May 2 at 9:45pm, with follow-up screenings at midnight and the next morning at ten o’clock. Guest will be in attendance for the premiere screening.

JAWS. The classic 1975 blockbuster, directed by Steven Spielberg, screens will be introduced by “special guests” from the movie – presumably screenwriter Carl Gottlieb, production designer Joe Alves, and makeup effects artist Gregory Nicotero, who will be on hand later in the week for the world premiere of the documentary THE SHARK IS STILL WORKING: THE IMPACT AND LEGACY OF JAWS, a trailer for which will screen tonight. CHRISTMAS ON MARS. This 83 min fantasy, directed by Wayne Coyne of the rock band flaming lips, screens as part of the Los Angeles United Film Festival. Adam Goldberg, SNL’s Fred Armisen, and Wayne Coyne will be in attendance.Also on the bill, two short subjects: “The Apparatus” and “Alice’s Attic.” Read more here.

THE SHARK IS STILL WORKING: The Impact and Legacy of Jaws.  This documentary about the 1975 blockbuster, based on the Peter Benchely best-seller and directed by Steven Spielberg screens three times: May 2 at 9:45pm and midnight; May 3 at 10:00am. Narrated by the late Roy Scheider, the THE SHARK IS STILL WORKING features interviews with Steven Spielberg, Richard Dreyfuss, Kevin Smith, Bryan Singer, and M. Night Shyamalan.Scheduled to be in attendance for the premiere are screenwriter Carl Gottlieb, production designer Joe Alves, and makeup effects artist Gregory Nicotero.Tickets are $10.
