Los Angeles Haunted Hayride – New Halloween Event for 2009

Many of our favorite Halloween events  in Los Angeles have been disappearing over the last few years (Haunted Vineyard, Turbidite Manor, etc), so it is a great pleasure to note that a new attraction is arriving in 2009: The Los Angeles Haunted Hayride. Starting on October 2 and running through October 31, this Halloween haunt will take visitors on a night-time hayride through the wilds of the eco-friendly King Gillette Ranch, which will be inhabited by numerous ghoulies and ghosties lurking in the underbrush. This should provide a startling contrast to the usual indoor walk-through mazes, and there will also be ghost stories and a haunted carnival (tailored for kids and families who may not enjoy the more intense frights of the hayride).

The premise is that the ranch used to be a hip gathering place for trend-setters decades ago, until tragedy struck:

In the 1920’s, King Gillette was known for hosting the most prestigious parties in all of Los Angeles County on his sprawling 500 acre ranch. On the night of the last ball ever witnessed on the ranch, the inmates from a local asylum escaped and invaded the ball. Guests including Los Angeles’ high profile and elite ran from the mansion to get to their cars in the hopes of escaping, however, the inmates were much faster and more vicious. Only few escaped with their lives. It has been said that on most nights in October, you can see the frantic guests searching the King Gillette Ranch still looking for their cars.

Hours are 7:00 pm to 10:30pm on weekdays, 7:00pm till midnight on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Advance tickets go on sale September 1. Prices range from $20 (hayride only) to $50 (VIP front of the line pass); plus there is a $1,000 group rate for you and your  riends to enoy a private wagon all to yourselfs. Advance sales (until September 29) are $2-off, and there are $5-off coupons at Gelsons Supermarket.
