Shocktober 2016: Halloween Horror Screenings at New Beverly

Tickets the New Beverly Cinema’s All-Night Horror Show have already sold out, but do not despair: the theatre will be offering more than a month’s worth of Halloween horror screenings on their “Shocktober” schedule, including dozens of classics, cult movies, and exploitation titles, all screened in 35mm. Movies screen daily, starting at 7:30pm; there are also kiddie matinees on Saturdays and Sundays at 2pm and midnight screenings on Fridays and Saturdays.

The screams begin with a double bill of The Reincarnation of Peter Proud and Happy Birthday to Me on Friday and Saturday, September 30 and October 1. Highlights include  a double bill of Horror of Dracula (1958) and Dracula (1979) on Sunday-Monday, October 16-17; The Conqueror Worm (a.k.a. Witchfinder General) and Jack the Ripper (1976) on Tuesday, October 18; the best version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde (1932) and Dr. Black and Mr Hyde (1976) on Wednesday-Thursday, October 19-20; Rosemary’s Baby and The Mephisto Waltz (1971) on Friday-Saturday, October 21-22; King Kong (1933) and Supernatural (1933) on Sunday-Monday, October 23-24; a rock-and-roll double bill of Alice Cooper: Welcome to My Nightmare (the theatrical concert film, not the midnight TV special) and the rarely screened Son of Dracula (the 1974 spoof starring Harry Nilsson and Ringo Starr, not the 1943 film with Lon Chaney, Jr.); The Phantom of the Opera (1925) and The Phantom of the Paradise on Wednesday-Thursday, October 26-27; and “Quentin’s Horror Comedy All-Nighter” on Saturday October 29, with Love at First Bite, An American Werewolf in London, Beetlejuice, Modern Problems, and The Fearless Vampire Killers (a.k.a. Dance of the Vampires).

Midnight movies include From Dusk Till Dawn on three Fridays, September 30, October 21 and 28; Alien (The Director’s Cut) on two Saturdays, October 1 and 15; From Dusk till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money on Friday, October 7; and From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman’s Daughter on Friday, October 14. (The All-Night Horror Show and the Horror Comedy All-Nighter replace the midnight shows on Saturday, October 8 and Saturday, October 29, respectively.)

Scaring the kids on Saturday and Sunday afternoons are Journey to the Center of the Earth on October 1-2; Mad Monster Party on October 8-9; Invaders from Mars on October 15-16; and Invasion of the Neptune Men on October 22-23.

Note: The sold-out All-Night Horror Show is advance tickets only; there will be no tickets sold at the door.
