News & Notes – and the Future of This Blog

As I’ve mentioned, I’m putting together a new website to create an online presence for the late lamented Cinefantastique magazine, which you can visit here: http://www.cinefantastiqueonline.com/ 

There is quite a bit of overlap between Cinefantastique Online and Hollywood Gothique, so I’m trying to work out how to separate my work efforts. From now on, general news about science-fiction, fantasy, and horror films will appear under the Cinefantastique, while information pertaining specifically to Hollywood and its environs (such as local Halloween attractions, live events, and in person appearances) will show up here.

In a way, this is more or less a return to what Hollywood Gothique was originally intended to be. It was only when local events hit a dry spell that I started writing more about national news, like the weekend box office tallies.

With that in mind, here are some items of interest over at Cinefantastique:

All of these are items that might have showed up in this blog at one time, but they seem to fit in better over at Cinefantastique.

Since I’m shifting the focus to Hollywood here, I should mention that the American Cinematheque’s 7th Annual Festival of Fantasy, Horror, and Science Fiction films is going strong. This week sees a an interesting double bill of Italian horror featuring Pupi Avati’s eccentric zombie flick ZEDER and the EXORCIST-OMEN rip-off BEYOND THE DOOR. And the Gathering of Ghouls is happening this Saturday; the event includes live music performances plus three British genre features: Josephe Losey’s excellent THESE ARE THE DAMNED, the rarely seen NEVER TAKE SWEETS FROM A STRANGER (about the unsavory subject of child molestation), and MANIAC, one of the many psycopathic thrillers made in the wake of Hitchcock’s PSYCHO.

Also, I wanted to mention that AUTOMATON TRANSFUSION, the low-budget zombie flick I praised in this review last year, has been picked up for DVD release this November. Despite the limited production values, this is a cool flick that you might want to check out.
