Nightmare City: Universal Horror B-Sides - Halloween Horror Screenings 2012

Universal B-Sides 2012

As part of its already extensive schedule of 2012 Halloween screenings (which includes Nightmare City: A Video Nasties Celebration), the Cinefamily presents Nightmare City: Universal Horror B-Sides, a series focusing on some of the lesser known efforts from Universal Studios, the company that gave us such renowned classics as Dracula (1931), Frankenstein (1931), and The Wolf Man (1941) - none of which is on view here. Instead, we get a rogues' gallery of oddball efforts, one-shots, and sequels that deserve their own day in the sun - or perhaps moonlight would be a better term here.

Titles include The Mummy, The Raven, and the Spanish-language version of Dracula (which was shot simultaneously with the more famous English-language version). Classic horror stars Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, and Lon Chaney Jr. are all represented, so fans of old-fashioned atmospheric horror should have a splendid time. The series winds up with a "Universal B-sides Video Mix," splicing together highlights from films that could not fit into the schedule.

Schedule:

The Mummy (1932) with Boris Karlof and House of Frankenstein (1944) with Karloff and Lon Chaney Jr - on October 13 at 5pm.

The Raven (1935) with Karloff and Bela Lugosi and House of Horrors (1946) with Rhondo Hatton on October 20 at 4:45pm

Weird Woman (1944) with Lon Chaney Jr and a second "Inner Sanctum" Mystery on October 21

Dracula (the Spanish-language version, 1931) and a "Universal Horrors B-Sides Video Mix" on October 28 at 5:15pm

Location: The Silent Movie Theater, 611 N. Fairfax Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90036
