Nocturne Theatre revives Rated R Speakeasy

The Rated R Speakeasy, which made its debut in 2019, comes screaming back to life this month at a new location, the Nocturne Theatre in Glendale, home of Haunted Soirée and other events produced by Meyer2Meyer Entertainment. The event promises an evening of cocktail-fueled revelry in a horror-themed environment, featuring a full bar, live entertainment, classic horror screenings, DJ music, roaming ghouls, and sculptures, prints and paintings by local artists.

The first Rated R Speakeasy provided everything a horror fan could reasonably expect. Perhaps somewhat unreasonably, our review took the speakeasy to task for failing to live up to its name: instead of a subdued vibe, it was loud a boisterous – more of a horror go-go burlesque than a speakeasy. The new incarnation of Rated R Speakeasy promises to be much the same. (As a point of comparison, last year’s Spirit Lounge: Macabre Manor at The Set in Montclair provided a much more authentic speakeasy ambiance.)

Rated R takes place on January 27, from 8pm to midnight.  Tickets are $22. Popcorn, candy and other food for purchase will be available in the lobby. The address for the  Nocturne Theatre is 324 North Orange Street, Glendale 91203. Get more information at ratedrspeakeasy.com.
