Nocturne Theatre’s offers fantasy & horror for spring

The Nocturne Theatre, home of Meyer2Meyer Entertainment (Haunted SoirĂ©e), has announced a spring season of Broadway musical entertainment loaded with fantasy and horror. The quartet of productions includes three genre titles – Into the Woods, Jekyll and Hyde: The Musical, and Beauty and the Beast – followed by Cabaret.

Into the Woods, the Tony Award winning show by the late Stephen Sondheim, retells the Brothers Grimm’s classic fairy tale with a dark, modern twist. Sondheim deconstructs the original stories (don’t expect traditional happy endings!) but retains many of the familiar elements, including the Big Bad Wolf, the Witch, and a Giant. The show runs from March 1 to 17th.

Jekyll And Hyde: The Musical recounts Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic tale of Good and Evil residing in a single body: the respectable Dr. Jekyll and his dangerous alter-ego Mr. Hyde. The music was composed by Frank Wildhorn. The book and lyrics are by Oscar-winner Leslie Bricusse (Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory), who provided lyrics for a couple of James Bond theme songs. “Goldfinger” and “You Only Live Twice.” The show runs from April 5 to 21st.

Beauty And The Beast is the Brodway musical version of the Disney animated film (which served as the basis for the later live-action remake). The film’s famous songs (by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman) are augmented with several that were either omitted from the movie or composed specifically for the stage (by Menken and Tim Rice). The show runs from May 10 to 26th.

Early Bird tickets are available online for all shows at a 30% discount. The Nocturne Theatre is located at 324 North Orange Street in Glendale. For more information, call (818) 839-0984; email info@meyer2meyer.com,or visit the official website: thenocturnetheatre.com.
