Preview: Holiday in the Park at Magic Mountain

Last night, Six Flags Magic Mountain offered a media preview of Holiday in the Park, which opens this week. The annual event adds a seasonal overlay to the famous theme park, replete with Christmas trees, elves, and Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus, all surrounded by thousands of beautiful lights synched to a play list of holiday-themed songs.

The usual rides and attractions are open but transformed (i.e., Steampunk becomes Gleampunk), and there is a Victorian Christmas Village recreating the bygone era with costumed characters, handcrafted wares, and fanciful décor. Seasonal food will be available, including hot chocolate, funnel cake, and holiday flavored fudge.

If you went to the drive-though version last December, you have seen the decorations that will be on display this year. The obvious difference, of course, is that visitors can now interact with the fanciful characters inhabiting the park, walk among and even through the giant Christmas ornaments, enter Santa’s cottage for a photo op, or pose with a real penguin.

Holiday in the Park runs on weekends and select weeknights from November 26 through January 2. Magic Mountain is open from 2pm to 9pm most days, but hours vary so check the official webpage for exact information. The park is located at 26101 Magic Mountain Parkway in Valencia.
