See the Queen of Horror – in the Flesh!
Wanna see the Queen of Horror in person? Well, here’s your chance. Thanks to a special event by the American Cinematheque in Hollywood, Barbara Steel (who starred in such horror classics as BLACK SUNDAY and CASTLE OF BLOOD back in the 1960s), will be appearing live to provide narration for a screening of Guy Maddin’s new film BRAND UPON THE BRAIN.
Maddin is a Canadian cult film figure of considerable renown, and his latest film is getting lots of rave reviews. Although the film has a synchronous soundtrack for regular engagements, there will be a handful of special screenings with an “11-piece orchestra, live foley sound effects,” an “onstage castrato,” and “special guest narrators.
Ms. Steel will narrate the Friday, June 3 screening at 7:30pm. On Saturday, June 9, also at 7:30pm, author Danie Handler (otherwise known as “Lemony Snicket”) will perform similar service.
Both screenings are at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. Get more info here.
UPDATE: In the comments, Libby points out that Barbara Steele will be back to narrate another screenign on Monday, June 11 at 7:30pm. Also: Actor Udo Keir (star of ANDY WARHOLS’ DRACULA and ANDY WARHOL’S FRANKENSTEIN, and most recently seen in a MASTERS OF HORROR episode) will narrate on Sunday, June 10 at 7:30pm.
