Beyond the Grave Tours: Séance Video

Every October, the Workman & Temple Family Homestead Museum in the City of Industry gets into the Halloween spirit by offering its annual Beyond the Grave Tour. The museum actually consists of two pioneer homes and a family cemetery. Historical tours are conducted year-round, but the seasonal tour focuses on changes in the customs of death, dying, and funeral arrangements as practiced in the 1800s, when the first house built, and the 1900s, when the second house was built. When Hollywood Gothique visited last year, there was also a look at spiritualism in the Victorian Era, including a séance performed with the lights on, so that participants can see the trickery. The tour is very entertaining and informative – worth the drive and the price of admission, especially if your Halloween interests lean more toward history than horror. (Read our review here.)

This year’s Beyond the Grave tours take place on Sunday, October 23. Tours depart every 30 minutes from 1pm to 5pm. The price is $6 for adults, $4 for children and seniors (55+). Reservations are recommended (space is limited for each tour).

The museum’s address is 15415 East Don Julian Road, City of Industry, 91745. Get more info at: homesteadmuseum.org.
