Kurosawa’s Retribution to screen at JFFLa

Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s horror-thriller from 2007 screens on three separate occasions at the Japan Film Festival in Los Angeles this month. Kurosaw is one of the leaders of the J-Horror field, with the impressive KAIRO to his credit, which was remade as PULSE for U.S. audiences. The story follows Detective Yoshioka, who is investigating a mysterious murder case. Clues begin to appear that point to him being the killer. As the investigation progresses, even he begins to wonder whether he may be the murderer that he is pursuing. Twitch.com reviewed the film at the Toronto After Dark Festival back in 2006 and called it an “excellent ghost movie that revisits some familiar themes and images from previous Kurosawa films and yet somehow makes them fresh and frightening all over again.”
