Video: Magic Mountain Holiday Drive-Through

At Hollywood Gothique it may seem that we shutter the cemetery gates at the end of October and go into hibernation until next Halloween, but in fact we celebrate fantasy-themed events throughout the year. And what could be more fantastical than Christmas, with its elves, flying reindeer, Santa Claus, and the famous ghosts of A Christmas Carol. You won’t find any of the latter at Magic Mountain’s Holiday in the Park Drive-Through Experience, but you will experience an exuberant inundation of lights and decorations, enhanced with costumed characters. Viewers are guaranteed to be amazed and thrilled.

There are several drive-through Christmas events in Southern California, but Six Flags Magic Mountain has the advantage of its location. The vast expanse provides numerous discrete locations with distinct looks and themes. The architecture provides excellent backdrops beyond what could be achieved in a pop-up event. And the winding road obscures what’s around the next turn, revealing a series of beautiful surprises. And of course the length is almost overwhelming – there is so much to see on this half-hour trek that it’s almost overwhelming.

Besides the physical decorations, visitors receive a special pair of glasses that create a novel visual effect, which you will not see recreated in the accompanying video. We won’t spoil it for you, but you should know that glasses enhance the experience and also work anywhere with bright circles of light, like streetlamps and headlights. However, we would not recommend wearing the glasses while driving home, because it’s just too distracting .

Six Flags Magic Mountain Holiday in the Park Drive-Through Experience is highly recommended. In fact, we found it superior to several of the Halloween drive-throughs we attended. Those sometimes left us feeling separated from the sights and sounds, cut off by the windshield, safely ensconced in our vehicle, and watching something from a distance instead of enjoying it up close. Magic Mountain’s event left us feeling fully immersed in the holiday surroundings and dazzled by the seasonal sights and sounds.

Bottom Line

This half-hour drive through Six Flags Magic Mountain features an explosion of sights and sounds that will dazzle viewers. Highly recommended.

Note: there is no audio via your car stereo, so you will have to roll down your window if you want to hear the music clearly; hence, masks are required. There are live actors, but they will not approach your car. Speed limit is 3mph. We recommend careful driving – it’s easy to be distracted by the lights and decorations, and you don’t want to rear-end the car in front of you!

The Holiday in the Park Drive-Through Experience continues nightly at Six Flags Magic Mountain through January 10, plus January 15-17, 22-24, 29-31. Tickets are $25/35 per person, depending on date. The address is 26101 Magic Mountain Parkway, Valencia, CA 91355. Get more information here: sixflags.com/magicmountain/events/holiday-in-the-park.
