Rise of the Jack O’Lanterns will haunt 2 L.A. locations for Halloween 2015

Rise of the Jack O’Lanterns will return to Los Angeles for Halloween 2015. This year, the outdoor walking tour of elaborately carved pumpkins will take place in two locations: Descanso Gardens and Santa Anita Park. The event is as much an art exhibition as a tour, with over 5,000 Jack O’Lanterns arranged in themed installations over the course of a one-third mile trail, accompanied by original music. Expect to see a safari-full of larger-than-life animals, an auto show, movie and television stars, and a 50-foot dragon. The atmosphere is old-school Halloween fun, sometimes spooky but never scary. There are no mechanical pop-scares or costumed actors, just gorgeous sights and sounds.

The walk is leisurely, requiring from 45 to 75 minutes, depending on how long you want to pause and gaze in wonder. A limited number of tickets is sold for each night, to prevent over-crowding. Tickets are valid for specific dates and times, with groups allowed in at fifteen-minute intervals.

Dates for Halloween 2015 have not been announced, but the event typically runs throughout October, Wednesdays-through Sundays on most weeks.

Tickets are not on sale yet, but the price range is $22-30, depending on date and location. Parking is free.

Descanso Gardens is located at 1418 Descanso Drive, La Cañada Flintridge, CA 91011.

Santa Anita Park is located at 285 W. Huntington Drive, Arcadia, CA 91007.
