Spotlight on William Lustig: Maniac & Vigilante

Location: The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, 5905 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90036

Description: Having apparently lost is collective mind, the Los Angels County Museum of Art presents a double bill of violent ’80s exploitation films directed by William Lustig. 1980s MANIAC is justifiably infamous for its use of Tom Savini’s splatter makeup effects, which are the film’s sole raison d’être. There is no plot to speak of; the film simply follows its titular character from one atrocity to the next. 1983’s VIGILANTE offers the always excellent Robert Forster as a man who joins a vigilante group after the murder of his wife and son.
