Halloween Horror Updates

With the Halloween weekend upon us, I have been busy updating the Hollywood Gothique website, making sure all the information you need is at your fingertips. Much of this is simple re-organization, but there is some new information, too.

The rather vaguely titled "Other Halloween Haunts" page has morphed into Halloween Parties & Street Fairs, which you can access here. The previous version of the page was a bit of a jumble, including harvest festivals, plays, and other activities more family-friendly, which didn't sit well on a page mostly occupied by adult parties.

Wicked Lit 2011

Description: Wicked Lit returns with another Halloween's worth of horrifying theatrical productions based on classic literature by authors Charles Dickens, H.P. Lovecraft, Edgar Allan Poe, Robert Louis Stevenson, M.R. James, and Mark Twain. This year,for the first time, Wicked lit offers 6 adaptations: "The Cask of Amontillado," "The Unnameable," and "The Chimes." Production B offers three new ghastly tales: "The Body Snatcher," "Casting the Runes," and "A Ghost Story."

Wicked Lit 2012 Halloween Plays

The Wicked Lit Halloween Theatre Festival returns for 2012, with three new morbid melodramas, all staged on the grounds of - and within - an actual mausoleum: WAKE NOT THE DEAD by Johann Ludwig Tieck’s vampire story; THE DEAD SMILE by F. Marion Crawford; COUNT MAGNUS by M.R. James. Audiences should not be adverse to a little exercise: these are "walking productions" staged at night in the cemetery. Expect to be scared silly.

2012 Halloween Mini-Reviews: Old Town Haunt, Fright Fair & Wicked Lit

Once again, Hollywood Gothique finds itself transgressing the borders of its native soil in pursuit of Halloween events of northern climes of California (in this case, the Winchester Mystery House Fright Nights), leaving us without adequate time to fully review all the great Halloween attractions in Los Angeles. Allow us to rectify this error with a trio of mini-reviews, focusing on Old Town Haunt, FrightFair, and Wicked Lit - each of which made it onto our lists of 2012 Halloween Recommendations.
