This Week’s Pic: Alien After Dark

The New Year is getting off to a slow start when it comes to fantasy film, mystery movies, horror-thrillers, and sci-fi cinema events in the Los Angeles area. Fortunately, the dry spell comes to an end on Friday, with a midnight screening of ALIEN (1979) and the latest installment of After Dark’s “8 Films to Die For” horror festival. ALIEN screens at the Nuart Theatre on Friday at Midnight (more info here).

The After Dark Fest runs from January 9 through 15 in approximately 50 theatres nationwide, including four in the Los Angeles area: the New Culver Plaza in Culver City, the Beverly Center 13 in Beverly Hills, the Mann Plant 16 in Van Nuys, and the University Village 10 – Riverside. This year’s titles are:

  • THE BROKEN
  • SLAUGHTER
  • PERKINS 15
  • BUTTERFLY EFFECT: REVELATION
  • FROM WITHIN
  • DYING BREED
  • AUTOPSY
  • VOICES

As in the previous After Dark film fests, the titles will play in rotation; each one is a separate admission, but some theatres offer festival tickets. Check your local listings for showtimes.
