Aero Theatre offers family fantasy & Halloween horror in October

It’s October, but the American Cinematheque is offering a little variety during the Halloween season, scheduling a series of fantasy-comedies during  month. Not to worry: they will cap off their schedule with a double bill of HOUSE OF FRANKENSTEIN and HOUSE OF DRACULA on Friday, October 30, followed by an all-night horrorthon on Halloween night.

Title: Flight of the Navigator & Explorers
Description: Two family-friendly fantasies about kids piloting space ships. Director Randal Kleiser will appear after FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR to discuss the film.

Title: Jason and the Argonauts & The Golden Voyage of Sinbad
Description: Two excellent fantasy films, with stop-motion effects by Ray Harryhausen, combine for a great double bill of family fantasy fun.Ticket holders will be eligible for a drawing for a free Harryhausen limited edition print from Every Picture Tells a Story, a book store across fro the theatre.

Title: Bedazzled
Description: The Faustian comedy, starring Dudley Moore and Peter Cook, screens on a double bill with TOM JONES. Raquel Welch co-stars as one of the Seven Deadly Sins (“Lust,” to be exact).

Title: Something Wicked This Way Comes
Description: Director Jack Clayton’s film version of Ray Bradbury’s novel screens with the author in person to introduce the film. Bradbury will by at a reception across the street at the book store Every Picture Tells a Story from 4-7pm before the screening, where he will introduce a new limited edition print of his painting “The Dark Carnival.”

Title: Ed Gein
Description: Steve Railsback stars in this film about the true-life horror of Ed Gein, the backwoods psycho who inspired PSYCHO. On a double bill with THE STUNTMAN, directed by Richard Rush, who will appear between the films along with Railsback.

Description: The last two “serious” entries in Universal Studios’ original cycle of classic black-and-white horror films screen on a double bill, for some good old-fashioned Halloween fun.

Title: Dusk-to-Dawn Horrorthon
Description: The American Cinematheque invites you to spend Halloween at the Aero Theatre in Hollywood, where you can thrill to such films as PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS, DAY OF THE DEAD, SOCIETY, THE BROOD, MANIAC, and THE TERROR. Special prices: $20 for general audiences; $18 for students and seniors; $15 for Cinematheque members. Includes all-night snacks. Didrector William Lustig will appear in person for the screening of MANIAC.
