Vidiots countdown to Halloween

Vidiots, the beloved video rental story which recently opened the Eagle Theatre, is celebrating the Halloween season with a cornucopia of horror film screenings. Everything imaginable is on the menu, from spooky children’s films to classics to cult flicks to art house gems.

Highlights include Onibaba (“Demon Woman,” pictured at top), Kaneto Shindo’s Japanese classic, which used to be a regular on the revival circuit in the days before home video. The film starts out merely grim and only gradually moves into overt horror, but the payoff is worth the wait, and the stunning black-and-white visual deserve to be scene on the big screen. The film screens on Monday, October 23 at 7:30pm

Also of note, Jennifer’s Body screens on Saturday, October 14 at 6:30pm, with in-person guests: director Karyn Kusama, writer Diablo Cody, and producer Jason Reitman. Presale tickets are sold out, but there may be a standby line outside the theatre just in case…

Tonight’s screenings include Poltergeist (1982) and two installments of the Friday the 13th film franchise. Other upcoming titles include Coraline, The Howling, The Fly (1986), Dracula (1931, Spanish language version), The Witches of Eastwick, Mandy, A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), The Witches (1990), Rebecca (1940), Get Out, Cat People (1982), Frankenweenie (2012), You’re Next, The Addams Family (1991), Tremors, Halloween (1978), ParaNorman, Dracula’s Daughter, and The Exorcist.

The Eagle Theatre is located at 4884 Eagle Rock Boulevard in Eagle Rock. Find the entire Countdown to Halloween schedule at vidiotsfoundation.org.
