Wuthering Heights (1939) & Enchanted Cottage (1945)

The American Cinematheque presents a double bill of romantic melodramas imbued with supernatural and/or fantasy overtones. WUTHERING HEIGHTS (with Laurence Olivier as Heathcliff) begins as a ghost story. The titular ENCHANTED COTTAGE (with Robert Young) certainly seems to live up to its name, at least as seen through the eyes of the young lovers at the story’s center.
