ZJU Theatre to revive Rotting Corpses

Starting this weekend, Zombie Joe’s Underground Theatre resurrects Attack of the Rotting Corpses. Last staged during the Halloween 2015 season, the horror-comedy will run on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:30pm from August 19 through September 10.

Set in a luxury living complex, Attack of the Rotting Corpses follows two managers who deal with such a mountain of complaints that when the residents turn into zombies it seems like just one more problem to add to the pile.

With broadly drawn caricatures and gross-out humor, the play is far from subtle, but then the title pretty much tells you that. Expect more laughs than screams – the tone is akin to Peter Jackson’s Braindead (1992, a.k.a. Dead/Alive). As we wrote of the previous production, Attack of the Rotting Corpses is “silly and insubstantial, but also fast and funny,” with a script that wisely does not stretch itself past a 50-minute run time.

Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. ZJU Theatre is located at 4850 Lankershim Boulevard in North Hollywood. Visit zombiejoes.com for more information.

Future shows at ZJU Theatre include Killer Klowns from Outer Space Cosplay Dance Party on September 17 & 18, followed by the return of Urban Death Tour of Terror starting September 30 and running through October on Fridays and Saturdays.
