Creepy Classical Music

National Public Radio has posted a list (along with audio samples) of their “Top 5 Creepy Halloween Classicss.”

Obvious entries like Bach “Tocatta in D Minor,” Mussorgsky’s “Night on Bald Mountain,” and Grieg’s “Hall of the Mountain King” are missing. Instead, the selections are:

  • Firebird Suite: Infernal Dance
  • Danse Macabre
  • El Amor Brujo (performed by Rachel Barton, violin, pictured)
  • Mephisto Waltz No. 1
  • Symphony Fantastique: Dream of the Witches’ Sabbath

We’re sure you could use any or all of these selections to liven up your Halloween party. Much as we love Bobby “Boris” Pickett, it’s better than playing “Monster Mash” all night.
