Cemetery Lane Trick R Treat

An Immersive Trick or Treat Experience for Young and Old

Hollywood Gothique says...

Cemetery Lane: A Trick-R-Treat Experience transforms Heritage Square Museum into a Halloween neighborhood, where creepy costumed characters hand out candy on the porches of authentic Victorian mansions and other historical structures. The door-to-door trick-or-treating is ideal for families with young children, but adults will certainly enjoy the atmospheric lighting, decorations, and installations that turn the event into an immersive experience.

The Cemetery Lane Trick-R-Treat Experience made its debut for Halloween 2021. From Black Cat Orange, the producers of Midsummer Scream, the event was designed to offer a family-friendly option filled with spooky atmosphere that was not too intimidating for young children. Set on the grounds of the Heritage Square Museum (home of the annual Halloween and Mourning Tours), Cemetery Lane sought to recreate the feeling of an old-fashioned neighborhood Halloween evening, with costumed youngsters going door to door among the museum’s Victorian Mansions, which were fully decked out for the season, with decorations and effects by Jeff Schiefelbein, of Sinister Pointe.

David Markland, co-founder and executive director of Midsummer Scream, explained that his goal was “to replicate a vintage Halloween night. While not-so-spooky as to terrify the youngest trick-r-treaters, we still aim to please adult fans of the Halloween season like us.”

Because of the nature of Heritage Square Museums historical structures, Cemetery Lane Trick-R-Treat Experience was designed as an outdoor event except for the merchandise store inside the old church building. Each mansion had some species of creepy characters (vampires, witches) lurking on the porch, interacting with trick-or-treaters while handing out candy. There were also a couple of outdoor walkthrough installations, including a cemetery with a vault, a western setting, and a sort of haunted garden.
