After operating in 2006 and 2007, this Halloween attraction is closed for good. If you want to know what you missed, read our write-up of th 2006 debut here and our Q&A with the proprietors here. The official website has offered this explanation:

“Due to MALL CORPORATE GREED for MORE RENT, HauntsUSA is NOT RE-OPENING. THANK YOU TO THE THOUSANDS THAT SUPPORTED OUR FUNDRAISING EVENT!”

The HauntsUSA company was founded in 2002 by Harlan and Laura Freeman. A reality TV producer, Harlan decided that his second job – moonlighting for Halloween – should be geared toward fundraising events to help local and national charities. Each year, HauntUSA donated part of its proceeds to some worthy cause, such as the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and the Make a Wish Foundation. 2006”s proceeds benefited Kiwanis Internaitonal, Project Grad Los Angeles, and the Special Olympics of Southern California.

Haunt USA offered three haunted houses:

  • Nightmare Factory – a traditional haunt with chainsaws, bodies, dangeorus curves, and some nearly pitch-black corridors.
  • Extreme Madness – a carnival of colorful clowns, with black-light paintings adorning the walls
  • ZombieVille – an outdoor haunt infested with zombies who block your path through a maze of chain-link fences.

In the then-current fashion of Halloween haunted houses, Haunt USA featured a legend acting as a sort of concept behind the attraction. In this case, a turn-of-the-century cemetery, buried beneath the parking lot, rises from the ashes once a year on Halloween night. A frightened night janitor disappeared after a frantic phone call to his sister years ago, having discovered a mysterious something he could not describe.
