Halloween Yard Haunt Odyssey 2023: The San Gabriel Valley
Welcome to Hollywood Gothique’s 2023 Halloween Yard Haunt Odyssey, in which we visit San Gabriel Valley Yard Haunts in Arcadia, Alhambra, San Gabriel, Monrovia and West Covina. With the bulk of these being yard displays, you should be able to do them all on the same night.
The San Gabriel Valley seemed to have scaled back on yard haunts this season, compared to a few years back when it was booming and seemed to be catching up to the San Fernando Valley.
With all of that in mind, please scroll down to view images and information you hopefully have not seen before. And if you are looking for a more comprehensive list of yard haunts in and around Los Angeles, check out our page devoted to Halloween Home Haunts.
2023 San Gabriel Valley Yard Haunts: Arcadia & Monrovia
Orlando Dr. & Orange Grove Ave., Arcadia
Open Until Oct 31
This has been an accidental discovery of ours for the last few years. Therefore, we sort of feel obligated to make an annual visit and snap a quick pic. Since we’re not the type to make up names for decorated houses, we list the cross streets since this one isn’t listed anywhere and does not have a name. There’s no telling if the owners even want it publicized.
If you are checking out yard haunts in Pasadena, this one can be added to your route. Technically in Arcadia, but it’s north enough to be considered Pasadena in our book.
Madison Ave. & Foothill Blvd., Arcadia
Open Nightly Until October 31
Another street with a 2-fer. We discovered this driving up to an elaborate display up the street. No official name for this yard display, but there is another nice display directly across the street.
Years ago, this street had a lot more decorations. We could only assume due to the pandemic’s after effects and inflation that most homes decided to scale back.
Madison Ave. & Foothill Blvd., Arcadia
Open Nightly Until October 31
Directly across from the yard haunt mentioned above, this was the first time we’ve seen a giant witch on a giant broom stick. Move over 12 ft skeleton, bring in the 12 ft tall witches!
You can hit the one above this capsule comment and the one below it, all on the same street.
Wicked
Madison Ave. & Crescent Blvd., Monrovia
Open Nightly Until October 31
Known internally as the “house with a lot of inflatables”, we are always sure that this yard display has something going on every year. Also one of the more consistent ones with a whole new set of inflatables during Christmas time as well.
Though a different city is listed, this is just up the street from the 2 yard displays above this capsule comment.
2023 San Gabriel Valley Yard Haunts: Alhambra & San Gabriel
Kraken Cove
1030 Manley Drive, San Gabriel
https://www.facebook.com/TheKrakenCove
Open October 11-31, 7-10 PM
Kraken Cove is one of the more consistent yard haunts in the San Gabriel Valley. They seem to never go dark unlike it’s SGV neighbors and always come back ashore. This year’s theme is titled “The Battle For Kraken Cove”. Here in the photos, you can see not one but two ships going at it for territory. On Halloween night, the ships fire at each other through the dense fog (just like the Pirates of Carribean ride) as you advance to get your candy.
Recommended for the community and for trick-or-treating. Add this to your route on your San Gabriel Valley yard haunt odyssey. Spiral Hill Cemetery is not too far away from this one.
Necromancy Nightmare
2617 W Grand Ave, Alhambra, CA 91801
Open Sept. 30, Oct. 1, 6-8, 13-15, 19-22, 27-31, 7:30-10:30PM
First time visit for us. This is a spooky yard display with what seemed to be a collection of store bought items. With other yard displays and haunts only open on select nights; it’s good to see elaborate displays that are on nightly for the Halloween community to enjoy.
This is an easy add to your SGV trek but be warned; parking could get a little tricky here since the main cross street is the busy Fremont Ave.
Spiral Hill Cemetery
8303 Doris Ave, San Gabriel, CA 91775
Open October 7-31, 7-10pm
This was dark last season so we were glad to see this listed again. However, a bit smaller than previous years; the 12 plus foot tall Jack Skellington more than made up it. The yard display may have grew in height what it lost it width. We’re definitely width it!
The closest yard display to this would be Kraken Cove. Both are in the same city and less than 10 minutes away from each other.
2023 San Gabriel Valley Yard Haunts: West Covina
MacDevitt Manor: Midnight Circus
2436 W Macdevitt St, West Covina, CA 91790
http://feartek.com/
Open 20, 21, 27, 28, 29, 31, 7-10 PM
MacDevitt Manor presents Midnight Circus. We were the 1st ever party to walk-through as soon as it opened. We literally saw scare actors going inside the haunt to ready their positions. They were all on-point and on-cue during the walk-through. Generally we’d expect the first run to be mediocre and have ill-timing. However, all scare actors were all on point and seemed committed to their posts. This was a fun walk-through that’s worth the wait for. And much respective to the circus theme; popcorn was available for your enjoyment after exiting the maze.
MacDevitt Manor is worth taking a trip to and it is worth it to walk-through more than once. Nearby, there is the Hollenbeck Haunted House in West Covina and the Fallout Shelter: LA in Azusa. Unfortunately, our schedule would not permit us to go back to the area to hit those 2 yard haunts.
