Poe Speakeasy returning to L.A. (again)

The Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy swings through Los Angeles for a third go-round, this time for a three-day stop in Santa Monica running Thursday to Saturday on January 23, 24 and 25 with start times at 6pm and 8pm each night. Poised somewhere between a theatrical play and a cabaret cocktail experience, the show pairs themed cocktails with performances based on Poe’s poems and stories.

The show has been touring the country for over a year with previous stops in Los Angeles in May and September (see coverage below), though the latter was officially the Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy II, which took place in Hollywood while the original show was scheduled elsewhere in the country.

January 2025’s performances of the Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy take place at the Illusion Magic Lounge, located at 1418 4th Street in Santa Monica. Tickets are $49.25, available here. You can get more information at the official website: edgarallanpoebar.com.

Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy

The Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy, which took place aboard at the Queen Mary Hotel at the end of May, is returning to Los Angeles this month. Tickets are available at Fever.com; prices start at $48, with higher prices for peak hours. Admission is adults-only (21 and over), and you should wear attire suitable for a cocktail party. Hudson Theatres are located at 6539 Santa Monica Boulevard in Hollywood.

The official website for the Poe Speakeasy is edgarallanpoebar.com, but the version appearing at Hudson Theatres is Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy: Part II. Find tickets for this show here.

Currently touring the country, the Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy will be stepping aboard the Queen Mary Hotel in Long Beach for a weekend of moody mixology, featuring poetic pairings of chilling tales and chilled cocktails inspired by the famous author. The 90-minute experience features live performances based on four of Poe’s works, “reimagined by Poe Historians”: “The Tell-Tale Heart,” “The Raven,” The Masque of the Red Death,” and “The Black Cat.” Each tale will be accompanied by a themed drink: The Pale Blue Eye, The Nevermore, Cocktail of Red Death, and Edgar’s Twisted Brandy Milk Punch.

Set within the Queen’s Salon, near the stern of the former cruise ship, the Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy runs for three days starting on May 30, with performances at 6pm, 8pm, and 10pm each night and additional matinee performances at noon, 2pm, and 4pm on Saturday, June 1.

Tickets are $55. Customers must be 21 and over (ID required). Cocktail attire is recommended. Food is not available as part of the experience, but if you arrive early you may be able to grab a bite somewhere else aboard the Queen Mary. The address is 1126 Queens Highway in Long Beach. Update: The Edgar Allen Poe Speakeasy will be returning to the Southland at the end of June, running for three nights in Palm Springs on the 27th, 28th, and 29th.
