Scary bear spotted in Hollywood

A giant version of Chauncy, the scary teddy bear from Imaginary, looms impassively above the corner of Hollywood and Vine, part of a promotional installation for the Blumhouse horror film, which officially opens today (early screenings actually began last night).

This is the same location where Warner Bros presented The IT Experience in 2017 and Derry Canal Days Festival and Funhouse in 2019 in order to promote their two feature films based on Stephen King’s novel IT. Unlike those, the Imaginary installation is not a walkthough. It is more of a simple walkaround with a wall of billboards surrounding the giant bear. The only scares come from two normal sized teddy bears: one each on the Hollywood Boulevard side and on the Vine Street side. In an alcove shaped space and behind a metal grating, each bear is timed to suddenly “leap” forward at regular intervals.
