Screamfest announces titles for Halloween 2024

Screamfest, the self-proclaimed  “Sundance of Horror,” returns to the TCL Chinese Theatres for Halloween 2024. Running from October 8 through 17, the annual festival’s 24th installment will include dozens new feature films and short subject from around the world, most appearing in Los Angeles for the first time. The recent press release announcing this year’s lineup touted Hulu’s Mr. Crocket as a highlight. Directed by Screamfest alumni Brandon Espy, the film stars Jerrika Hinton (Hunters, Grey’s Anatomy) as mother fighting to rescue her son from a children’s show host with supernatural powers.

This year’s world premieres include Drained (co-dependent vampire romance), Carved (about a sentient pumpkin), and ALO – Antropophagus Legacy (cannibalism). Making their North American premieres are Test Screening (a secret test screening goes bad), The Witch Revenge (a witch gets revenge), and 1978 (a kidnapping victims turn out to be part of a macabre cult guided in league with a supernatural force).

Founded by Rachel Belofsky, Screamfest highlights new work by indie filmmakers. The festival has featured several films that went on to secure distribution, including Monolith (WellGO USA), Faceless After Dark (Dark Sky Films), and Pandemonium (Arrow Video). Over a decade ago, they featured Paranormal Activity before it was snatched up by Paramount Picture, launching a successful franchise.
